Software

Damit ein Computersystem die richtigen Funktionen ausführt, muss es die entsprechenden „Handlungsvorschriften” befolgen. Diese immateriellen Bestandteile eines Computersystems werden unter dem Namen Software zusammengefasst. Als Software wird dabei die Gesamtheit der Programme und Programmierhilfen eines EDV-Systems bezeichnet. Software läßt sich in Systemsoftware und Anwendungssoftware unterteilen.

Anwendungssoftware

Die Anwendungssoftware besteht aus all jenen Anwendungsprogrammen (Applikationen), die Benutzende eines Computersystems direkt dabei unterstützen, ihre Aufgaben mit Hilfe dieses Computersystems zu lösen. Das Textverarbeitungsprogramm OpenOffice "Writer" und das Tabellenkalkulationsprogramm "Calc" sind typische Beispiele für Anwendungssoftware.
